Acceptable Use Policy

1. Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") defines the rules and guidelines for using the Scraper8 web scraping API service ("Service") provided by Vision Infinity Solutions FZE LLC ("Vision 8 Solutions"). This AUP is incorporated into and forms part of our Terms of Service.

We built Scraper8 to enable legitimate data collection, research, and automation. This policy exists to ensure the Service is used responsibly and lawfully, protecting both our users and the broader internet community.

2. Permitted Uses

The Service is intended for lawful purposes including, but not limited to:

  • Market research and competitive analysis using publicly available data
  • Price monitoring and comparison across e-commerce platforms
  • Academic and scientific research
  • SEO monitoring, SERP analysis, and content auditing
  • News aggregation and media monitoring
  • Lead generation using publicly listed business information
  • Quality assurance and website testing
  • Data journalism and public interest investigations
  • Archiving publicly accessible web content
  • Building datasets for machine learning from public sources

3. Prohibited Uses

You must NOT use the Service for any of the following:

3.1 Illegal Activities

  • Any activity that violates applicable local, national, or international law
  • Accessing systems or data you are not authorized to access
  • Circumventing technical restrictions where doing so is illegal in your jurisdiction
  • Facilitating fraud, identity theft, phishing, or other criminal activity

3.2 Privacy Violations

  • Harvesting personal data (names, emails, phone numbers, addresses) without a lawful basis under applicable privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, PDPA, etc.)
  • Building profiles of individuals without their knowledge or consent
  • Scraping private or gated content that requires authentication you do not legitimately possess
  • Collecting sensitive personal data (health, financial, biometric, political beliefs, religious affiliation)
  • Scraping social media profiles for surveillance or stalking purposes

3.3 Intellectual Property Infringement

  • Systematically copying and republishing copyrighted content without authorization
  • Scraping content behind paywalls for redistribution
  • Creating derivative databases that infringe on database rights (e.g., EU Database Directive)
  • Violating the specific terms of service of target websites where legally enforceable

3.4 Harmful Technical Activity

  • Sending requests at a rate that degrades or disrupts target websites (denial-of-service)
  • Attempting to exploit vulnerabilities in target websites or the Scraper8 infrastructure
  • Using the Service to scan for security vulnerabilities without explicit authorization from the target
  • Attempting to bypass Scraper8 rate limits, authentication, or access controls
  • Reverse-engineering the Service infrastructure or proprietary anti-detection methods
  • Injecting malicious code, scripts, or payloads through the Service

3.5 Spam and Abuse

  • Harvesting email addresses or contact information for unsolicited communications
  • Using scraped data to send spam, phishing, or unwanted marketing messages
  • Creating fake accounts or using multiple accounts to circumvent plan limits
  • Reselling or sublicensing API access without written authorization

3.6 Harmful Content

  • Scraping or distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
  • Using the Service to facilitate terrorism, violence, or extremism
  • Scraping content for the purpose of harassment, doxxing, or intimidation

4. Your Responsibilities

  • Legal compliance: You are solely responsible for ensuring your use of the Service complies with all applicable laws in your jurisdiction and the jurisdiction of the target website
  • robots.txt awareness: While the Service may technically access pages blocked by robots.txt, you should respect robots.txt directives as a matter of ethical practice and legal caution
  • Data handling: You are responsible for securely handling, storing, and processing any data obtained through the Service
  • Third-party terms: You should be aware of and consider the terms of service of any website you scrape
  • Rate responsibility: Use reasonable request rates and implement exponential backoff for retries
  • Reporting: If you discover that your use of the Service inadvertently violates this AUP, notify us promptly

5. Monitoring and Enforcement

  • We log API usage metadata (URLs, timestamps, response codes) for security and abuse detection
  • We do NOT inspect or store the content of pages you scrape
  • We may investigate usage patterns that appear to violate this AUP
  • We may act on complaints from third parties regarding misuse of the Service

6. Consequences of Violation

If we determine that you have violated this AUP, we may take one or more of the following actions at our sole discretion:

  • Warning: A written notice to cease the prohibited activity
  • Throttling: Reduced rate limits on your account
  • Suspension: Temporary suspension of your account and API keys
  • Termination: Permanent termination of your account without refund
  • Legal action: Referral to law enforcement or pursuit of legal remedies where appropriate

We aim to provide notice before taking action, but reserve the right to act immediately in cases of severe violations, legal requirements, or imminent harm.

7. Reporting Violations

If you believe a Scraper8 user is violating this AUP, or if your website is being scraped in a manner that violates this policy, please contact us:

We take all reports seriously and will investigate promptly. Please include as much detail as possible, including timestamps, URLs, and any evidence of the violation.

8. DMCA and Copyright Takedown

We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe content scraped through our Service infringes your copyright, you may submit a DMCA takedown notice to support@vision8solutions.com containing:

  • Identification of the copyrighted work
  • Identification of the infringing activity and the user (if known)
  • Your contact information
  • A statement of good faith belief that the use is unauthorized
  • A statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate
  • Your physical or electronic signature

Note: Scraper8 does not store scraped content. Our ability to act on DMCA requests is limited to restricting the user's access to the Service.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this AUP as laws, technologies, and best practices evolve. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date. Material changes may be communicated via email. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
